As some of you will know, I recently went on my fourth trip to Amsterdam earlier this year. However the difference this year, is that I'm now a proud vegan! This was the perfect opportunity to visit some of the most talked about vegan spots the city had to offer. But, when I was researching the best vegan restaurants in Amsterdam, I struggled! I mostly used Instagram and Facebook to find recommendations, as Google didn't have much to offer. That's why I decided to curate this one-stop list of all the food we ate on our little weekend away.

Day 1: Vegan Junk Food Bar

The day we arrived, our plane had been delayed and we landed much later than anticipated. We were STARVING but we had left it far too late to find anywhere in the centre. This lead us to the Vegan Junk Food Bar close by our hotel. They have several locations across Amsterdam, and we visited the newest of the locations: Eerste Van Swindenstraat 389, 1093 GB Amsterdam, Netherlands.

We arrived 5 minutes before the kitchen closed, but the staff were so accommodating and said we could order if we were quick. Because of this we picked the first things we could see on the menu, and let me tell you, the food here was insane. INSANE.

We had the 'Notorious Sumo' burger (a 'double plant-based beef patty, cheddar, fried onion rings, lettuce, tomato, red, spring & fried onion mix, pickles, jalapeños, VJFB sauce') (pictured 1st), loaded fries, with mock chicken, bbq sauce and crispy onions (pictured 2nd) and my partner had the 'Daddy Mc Chik'n' burger (a 'double plant-based Chik’n, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, red spring & fried onion mix, pickles, daddy sauce')(pictured below). I must admit I had that horrible thought that he picked better than me, but we ended up sharing anyway. They were both delicious and exactly what we needed after a long day of travelling. We ended up crawling through the Oosterpark, barely able to stand because we were so full. Worth it though.

Day 2: Toastable

On our second day, we didn't have a plan food-wise, we decided to try and find somewhere out and about while we were exploring. We spent a while searching and eventually settled on a little cafe with a couple of vegan toasties on the menu in the window. We ordered a peppermint tea and fresh lemonade, which were delicious and refreshing, then we ordered the only two vegan options on the menu: the 'Californication' (a mexican inspired toastie with guac, salsa, spinach, nachos and jalapenos) and the aptly named 'The Vegan' (hummus, roasted vegetables and and smoked almonds).

We split our half and half so we got to taste both, and both were surprisingly delicious. I say surprising because honestly we didn't expect much as this place wasn't mentioned on any of my vegan lists, but it was perfect for a cute lunch date. (Obviously Oli couldn't wait until I'd taken the picture).

We ate dinner at the 'Meatless District'. I had pasta and my boyfriend had a burger, but honestly neither of these were particularly memorable and we both thought it was slightly overpriced for what it was, but the meals were tasty but nothing I haven't eaten before.

We also visited the 'Vegabond' raw vegan cafe at some point during the day, although this experience is a bit blurry. I can remember that I was pleasantly surprised by the raw vegan cakes on offer, I had the 'cheesecake' and Oliver had a raw apple pie, that tasted better than it sounds.

Day 3: ....

I obviously forgot to photograph anything we ate today, can't think how that happened.
Although I vividly remember eating the best chips I have ever tasted. This was at 'Manneken Pis', just down the road from the sex museum. They served vegan mayo and chips in a cone. That is all.

We also had dinner at 'Mastino V' pizzeria, that was exclusively vegetarian and vegan. I had the four cheese pizza, which was incredible considering it didn't actually have any real cheese on. The bases were all gluten free too, if you're into that.

Day 4: PANCAKES!

Today was our last day, so we stayed close to the train station in the centre and searched for things to do. After aimlessly wandering around for a couple of hours, we saw the giant 'PANCAKES!' sign and obviously walked straight past. Obviously pancakes can't be vegan? Wrong! I hopefully googled to see if there was a vegan pancake house anywhere in the vicinity, and PANCAKES! popped up. This holiday was full of happy little food surprises.

Although the vegan menu was quite small, it still had my tried and tested favourite - lemon and sugar. Oli decided to create his own with banana and maple syrup, which looked equally yummy. Although we only popped in for a snack, they really filled us up and we decided to call this lunch. Plus you get the cute little clog key-ring as a souvenir.

Overall, Amsterdam was so full with vegan options that we didn't have chance to visit everywhere we had planned. We are still to visit Mr and Mrs Watson and experience the vegan cheese fondu, but I am sure I will be back, even if it is just for the historic chips and mayo....

I know summer can be a scary time for those of us with a little extra chub; legs are out and sleeveless dresses are in. But you don’t have to be afraid! I dare you to challenge yourself this summer, step out of your comfort zone and into some super cute clothes. Stop worrying about what others think and focus on knowing that you look incredible. Rock the thunder thighs and show off your amazing body whatever size or shape you are. To help you along in your journey, I’ve picked out some of my favourite trends of moment that are perfectly suited to us chunkier gals.

1. Wrap Dresses
Wrap Dresses are your saviour for any occasion, whether that be a date night, a day in the beer garden or a lunch with the family. They sweep across your stomach drawing attention to the smallest part of your waist, which is very flattering! I like to style them with some bold tassel earrings and heels for a sleek evening look.

(Left to right: PLT, PLT, ASOS)

2. T-shirt dresses
These are perfect for a more casual day. I like to style them with a pair of trainers and an oversized denim jacket for the perfect chilled vibe. T-shirt dresses are a saviour for when it’s really hot out, as they don’t cling to the body and flow over any lumps or bumps that you might feel conscious about.

(Left to right: Missguided, ASOS, Boohoo)

3. Cycling Shorts
Ok, so I know this is a bit out there, and will be out of most people’s comfort zones! But cycling shorts are a cute way of solving the age-old issue of chub rub! Styled with a really oversized t-shirt, trainers and a big old pair of sunnies they look super edgy and cool. My legs are my biggest gripe when it comes to deciding what to wear, but fuck it! Cycling shorts are a cool trend that even us chunky gals can look hot in (just look at these amazing plus models rocking them!)

(Left to right: PLT, Boohoo, Boohoo)

I’ll end this post by saying that everyone is beautiful, no matter if you are big or small, slim or a little bit chunky. I am a firm believer that you shouldn’t be restricted in what you wear because of your size, wear whatever the fuck you want and feel confident in doing so! Get those legs out girl.

If you have any tips for being plus in the sun, leave them below! And don’t forget to give this post a like, comment and share to support my little blog!

As always, thank you for reading, and thanks to Soap and Glory for supporting this this post!

Love, Emma xx

Summer is OFFICIALLY HERE! After months of dull and drizzly days, the sun is finally shining and I am ready! Hot weather for me means wearing less make up and, if you’re pale like me, you will definitely be tanning before you get your legs out! In this blog I have compiled a list of the perfect summer products to make yourself and your skin look amazing just in time for your holiday.

The first is the Peaches and Clean Deep Cleansing Milk. This is the most amazing cleanser that literally melts away your make-up and makes the skin look refreshed and energised. I use this in a morning to make sure my skin is squeaky clean and fresh, and again in the evening to take off any left-over make-up or just to make sure my skin is clean after a hot (and sweaty) day. Not only does this cleanser make your skin feel sooo soft, it also smells exactly like peaches (my favourite smell ever). Find it here!

The second essential I can’t recommend enough is the Flake Away Body Polish. This stuff is a staple in my bathroom, especially when it comes to tanning season. I use this in the shower or bath before I’m going to use a fake tan, and it makes sure that there are no dry patches for the tan to cling to and go patchy. This scrub is also amazing for taking off tan when it’s past its best! Find it here!

The third and final product on my summer skin list, is the Peach Pout Completely Balmy Lipsticks. These are perfect for the hot weather because they are pigmented like a lipstick, but feel like a balm on the lips. This stops your lips from getting dry and cracked in the heat, but also stays on all day. The lipstick is available in 3 shades: Peach for the Sky, Peach Ball and Freedom of Peach, so there will be a shade to suit you! The shade I lean to most is the slightly more red-toned Freedom of Peach as it looks amazing with a pale complexion. Find them here!

As always thank you for reading, and let me know if you have any other products that I should try or any that I should be packing in my suitcase to take on holiday!

Emma xx

Keeping it transparent: You might have noticed that all of these products are from Soap and Glory, and although this post is supported by them, I am under no obligation to only use their products! They are just the best out there! They not only do wonders for your skin, but they always smell amazing and are always reasonably priced.

As the sun comes out and you start trading jumpers for dresses, you might start to notice your wardrobe looking a bit sad. Maybe it’s full of blacks and browns that just aren’t fitting for the summer, or full of clothes that you never even took the label off, or maybe you’re still hoarding that one pair of jeans that you will ‘definitely fit into next year’. Now is the perfect time to de-clutter your wardrobe to make room for all that holiday shopping.

I always tend to de-clutter at this time of year, it means you can put the winter clothes you’ve been loving into storage and throw out the pieces that didn’t quite make the cut. It also makes way for the inevitable summer splurge that happens as soon as the sun makes an appearance and you realise you can’t wear jeans for the 5th day in a row. Through my own de-cluttering experience and from helpful hints of the internet, I’ve gathered some tips to help you sort out your wardrobe.

The first is probably the most well-known wardrobe ‘hack’ to de-clutter, but barely anyone actually puts it into practice. This is the ‘reverse hanger hack’. It involves putting all the hangers into your wardrobe backwards, and turning them the right way around once the item has been worn. This way, after a few weeks you will see what your favourite and most worn items are, and what pieces have never seen the light of day. Now you have to decide if you will honesty and truly ever wear these items. Be realistic, does it fit? Will you wear it next year? If not, it’s probably time to part ways and move on. But don’t just throw your clothes away, ask your friends and family if they are interested first, then decide what is in a good enough condition to be donated to a charity shop or sold online (Ebay or DePop are perfect for selling second hand clothing). If there are some pieces that have lived life to the full and really cannot be passed on, don’t just throw them in the bin because you can recycle them! Clothing is the second biggest polluter on the planet – don’t add to it! You can pop your clothes in a clothing bank (these are often found near supermarkets) or you can search your local council website to find a local collection.

Once you’ve thrown out all the clothes you don’t wear, you will have made enough room to warrant a shopping trip. However, my advice is to not go in blind! You’ll probably end up in the same situation in 6 months with clothes that still have their label on! Instead make a comprehensive list of clothing you really need. Maybe you threw out your only pair of black jeans because they were too worn, so these will need replacing. Or maybe you’ve noticed you don’t have a jacket that’s suitable for the summer. Write this down so you know where to spend your money and reduce the amount of impulse purchases made (hopefully!).

When you go to hang up all your shiny new purchases, take a minute to put some order to your wardrobe. Instead of everything being mixed in together, hang your clothes in categories to make it easier to browse. You could even add in sub-categories if you want to go full ‘Monica’. You might have a section for dresses, but within this you might have ‘occasion dresses’ or ‘going out dresses’ or ‘casual dresses’. This means that when you have a wedding to attend (for example), you can see the full range of possibilities in one place, making it much easier to pick an outfit.

I hope this post helped you out if you are doing the dreaded spring clean, let me know in the comments if you have any other tips for spring cleaning or de-cluttering!

As always, thank you for reading and thanks to Soap and Glory for supporting this post!

P.S. Apologies for the lack of original images, as I say, I'm in the process of de-cluttering and moving out of uni so my wardrobe isn't looking particularly Instagramable right now!

I have been wanting to try the metallic lip trend for so long, but I've been struggling to figure out a way to make them work for my pale little face. After playing around with the Spectaculips Galactic Glazes from Soap and Glory, I think I've finally figured out the perfect look for me.

I'll skip my base and eyebrows because I know this is something that everyone likes to do a little differently, and I'll go straight onto eyes. I am using my well loved Make Up Revolution palette (Flawless 3 - Resurrection) and I'm using the 4th, 5th and 6th shades across from the left on the bottom row of the palette. Unfortunately I don't have the names for these shadows so I hope the explanation is good enough!

I used the lightest shade as a base across the whole lid and blended that out to act as a transition colour.

I then used the darker, more orangey tone to pack onto the lid, which I then blended into the first transition colour.

I then took the bright pink shade and used that in my crease. I then blended everything out to create this warm, pink smokey eye.

After this I used the Soap and Glory Supercat 'Skinny' eyeliner to create my usual flick. The skinny brush made it so easy to get that flick sharp and defined, and this eyeliner does not budge!
Once the eyeliner had dried down, I used the Soap and Glory 'Thick and Fast' mascara to build up the lashes. I always used to wear lashes on a night out, but after the amount of times I've had to drunkenly try and stick the corners back down, it's really not worth the trouble (plus this mascara makes your lashes so long and luscious you don't even need them!).

After the eyes are all done, I topped up my contour and blush and coated on that highlighter! After this I focused on lips. I have used these Glazes over a liquid lipstick, and that looks amazing (I posted a photo on my instagram @emmygrxce if you'd like to have a look at that look). But here I decided to showcase the Glazes in their full glory, as they are so pigmented on their own. I chose to use the pink shade in 'Back to the Fuchsia' (how cute is that name though..) to match the pink on my eyes. For a more subtle look you could use the shade 'Starship Silver' over a nude lip. These glazes' are so reflective and beautiful, just look at that shine! Shop the glosses here!

So here's the finished look, I hope you liked this post even though it's a little different from my usual ramblings! I love experimenting with make up and would love to do more of this style of post (or even a video if I can pluck up the courage!). If you would like to see more of these posts leave a comment with a suggestion for a new look to try out down below.

As always, thank you so much for reading, your support is always appreciated!
And a big thank you to Soap and Glory for supporting this post and introducing me to the best products!

Like most of us, I like to think of myself as a good person. I like to always do nice things for my friends and family, like cooking dinner or buying my mum some flowers. But I have been struggling to remember the last time I did something charitable. I’m sure you would agree, that sometimes you get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, may that be with work, uni or school, and you forget about those who may not be as fortunate as yourself. I know I’ve been guilty of this recently, however I was inspired by International Women’s Day to reflect on how I could be truly selfless, and give to a charity that does so much for women who may be struggling.

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you will know that Soap and Glory work closely with the Young Women’s Trust, in raising awareness of the charity and supporting their cause. Before working with S&G, I hadn’t heard of the Young Women’s Trust, and had no idea how much work to support women aged 16-30 who are struggling to live on no or low pay in England and Wales. They encourage women to get into work by offering free confidence and employment coaching to help women get into work. Last year they helped 2,380 young women through their ‘Work it Out’ campaign. As well as this, the YMT also focus on social issues of women in work, looking particularly at the pay gap between men and women. I find it unbelievable that in this day and age, men earn on average 18.4% more than women. The YMT are working hard to bring attention to this hugely important issue, and are encouraging change.

As a student, I have very little spare cash, which means it can be difficult to donate to a charity personally. But this doesn’t mean you should sit back and do nothing. YOU could do something amazing to help someone struggling. YOU could be the change in the world that you want to see. I decided to do what I could, and put on a bake-sale across businesses in my home-town. I baked a huge batch of cupcakes, covered them in sprinkles, and sent them off to various businesses around town to be sold for a small donation. With the help of family and friends I made around £50, which will be donated straight to the Young Women’s Trust. Although only a small amount, it is so much more than I could have given on my own, and through the bake sale it has spread the message of the charity.

I would love if this post inspires even one of my lovely readers to go out there a do something selfless! Comment below with any ideas for how to be selfless, and share this post to keep spreading this message!

If you’re anything like me, you will know the struggle of accidentally snoozing your alarm 3 times, and ending up having about 10 minutes to get ready to leave for your morning lecture. In this post I’ll be sharing my rushed morning, which hopefully will give you some handy tips to help get you out of the door quicker!

The first thing I tend to do when I realise I’ve woken up late is rush to the bathroom, brush my teeth and give my face a quick splash of really cold water. Not only does this wash my face, it also wakes you up (although this might feel aggressive and go against everything you believe in, it is a quick way to get rid of that lethargic ‘get me back to bed’ feeling).

Tip: If you like to stay in bed that little bit longer, have a shower or bath before you go to bed! This way you can wash your hair, leave it to dry overnight and save all that time blow-drying and straightening in the morning (you could even pop your hair in a couple of French braids and wake up with effortless beachy waves).

After I’ve finished in the bathroom it’s time to sort my hair and face out. Depending on how confident you feel, the best way to get ready quickly is to not bother with make-up at all! Recently I have loved going bare-faced and freeing my skin. If I’m having a make-up free day my absolute saviour is the Bright and Pearly - Radiance Boosting Cocktail from Soap and Glory. Not only is this packed with vitamins to nourish the skin, its makes your skin super plump and glowy (you can also use this under make-up as an illuminating primer). If I’m not feeling as confident with my skin, or I’ve got a couple of break-outs, I’ll just dab the tiniest amount of concealer under my eyes and on any spots that might have cropped up, throw on a layer of mascara and quickly run some powder through my eyebrows (my favourites at the moment are the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast mascara, as it does exactly what it says on the tin, and the DIY Brow Bar for a natural looking brow).

Tip: Anyone that knows me will know my eyebrows leave much to be desired, to be honest without make up they are pretty much non-existent. Recently I’ve discovered the miracle of dying my eye-brows, which I do probably once every 4-6 weeks. This has legitimately changed my life, it makes getting ready in a morning so much quicker, sometimes I don’t even feel like I need to put anything on my eye-brows now. Honestly I feel like a new woman.

Next I move on to hair. Now, my hair has been bleached to within an inch of its life and tends to go a bit birds-nesty a couple of days after washing. If I’ve not been able to wash my hair the night before, it’s a quick fix of dry shampoo and a messy bun. No-one will judge you for looking a bit worse for wear, chances are you are one of many dry-shampoo’d, messy bunned ladies at your 9am lecture.

Now I’m looking a bit more alive, I throw the comfiest of clothes on (I haven’t got time to co-ordinate an Instagram approved outfit). Leggings and a hoody are my uniform of choice recently, it’s warm and cosy and requires minimal thought and effort in a morning, especially when your brain hasn’t kicked into gear yet. So, I’m up and dressed and ready to leave. If I have time I’ll have a quick bowl of cereal or if I’m running really late, I’ll run out of the door with a couple of slices of toast in my hands and eat that on the way to the bus stop (very glamorous).

I’ll finish this post by saying it’s so important to embrace your natural beauty. You are under no pressure to spend hours getting ready every day, your bare face is just as beautiful!

As always, thank you so much for reading! Let me know if you’re late and lazy like me, and let me know if you have any other tips for a rushed morning!

Again, a special thanks to Soap and Glory for supporting this post!
Love always, Emma xxx

Now the endless ‘month’ of January is over, February brings a fresh start and a fresh term at Uni. I always find it so difficult to get back into the grind of going to campus every day, all the extra reading and not forgetting the dreaded coursework deadlines. Although they might seem an age away right now, if you’re anything like me, they will almost certainly creep up on you and seem to pop up out of nowhere. Everyone that knows me, would probably suggest I’m guilty of leaving everything until last minute and end up getting super stressed over something I could have been much better prepared for! As one of my new year’s resolutions was to take better care of myself and my mental health, I have decided to try and prevent the stress that comes along with coursework by being hyper-organised and ready to face the semester head-on.

One of the ways I have started to do this is by keeping a diary. Somewhere I know I have a diary that I bought last for last semester, but since I haven’t been able to find it since October it wasn’t much help! This term I’ve decided to use my creativity (or GCSE art skills) to create my own diary. I just got a really simple black notebook and wrote in my own dates, various lists and I have also saved space for anything else that might be handy to have written down. Because I’ve written it myself, it is totally tailored towards me and the time I put into creating the diary encourages me to use it. Although it’s not a bullet journal, I have taken some inspiration from that style of layout. If you want to do the same, there are hundreds of Youtube videos dedicated to journaling. Some of my favourites are: AmandaRachLee (https://www.youtube.com/user/amandarachlee) and Ashley Ann Laz (https://www.youtube.com/user/PaperPastels)

As well as having a layout for the whole month, I also find it handy to have an overview of the semester as a whole. This term I have created a really simple timeline from January until the end of term in June, along this I have written in when all my coursework is due. To make this easier to read I’ve colour coded the coursework in-line with my different modules. This makes it so easy to see when each piece is due, so I know where to prioritise my time. I made this in a similar style to my journal so they link up in my mind (and look pretty of course).

Another factor I think is essential to getting into the swing of things is new stationary! I know many people (myself included) find they are much more motivated to start work if they can use a brand new notepad and a fresh set of pens. This also reaffirms the clean slate idea of the new term, and it also makes sure you aren’t getting muddled with your notes from semester one. I am a firm believer in the power of a new set of felt tips. This always encourages me to re-write notes and make it look as pretty as possible. Of course as well as giving you a beautiful set of notes, this will help give you a head start when it comes to revision as you will have already re-visited your lectures.

Let me know if this helped you get ready for the new term (or if you aren’t at Uni, let me know if it’s helped to get you organised for the New Year!).

As always thank you to Soap and Glory for supporting this post, and a big thank you to you for reading! Don’t forget to leave a comment, like or share to support my little blog!

All the festivities of Christmas, New Year as well as a stressful exam season can take a toll on your body, skin and mind. With January coming to a close and semester two starting, this is the perfect opportunity to take the time to look after yourself and make sure you are the best ‘you’ you can be going into the new year.

1. Recover Your Body
Hopefully all the Christmas chocolates have been eaten by now, and your kitchen cupboards and fridge are ready to be re-stocked ready for the new term. Take this opportunity to fill them with only food that will fuel your body in a positive and healthy way. Fresh fruit and vegetables will fill your body with nutrients, making you feel more awake and alert as well as cleansing your body from all the alcohol and Christmas food you’ve been consuming for the last 2 months. (Hint: Oranges are an incredible source of vitamin C, protecting you from the dreaded winter cold)
If your new year’s resolution is to get fit (and you haven’t already started this) take February 1st as a new ‘new year’ and get active! If you like working out in a gym, get your money’s worth and go as often as possible. You don’t have to feel like you’re dying every time you get off the treadmill, even lifting small weights or just power walking can get your heart rate up and get the endorphins flowing. This can help to improve your mental health too, especially after such a stressful exam period. If you aren’t a gym bunny, there are hundreds of ways to get your body moving. You can start walking to uni (and save your bus fare!) or you could do something as simple as taking the stairs up to the top floor of your building and avoid the crowded lifts. There is no wrong way to get active, any small change will be beneficial to your body in the long term.

2. Recover Your Skin
The food and alcohol over Christmas as well as the cold weather can ruin your skin. I find my skin gets terribly dehydrated and dry. If your skin is similar, the answer is to moisturise whenever you can. Preferably multiple times a day! If you’re short of time the ‘Spritz me Quick’ moisture mist from Soap and Glory is your saviour. You can quickly spritz this all over your body and the Shea butter, coconut and almond gives a lightweight moisture boost that will leave you with a natural glow. This also smells insane because it is in the original pink scent.
If you have more time in the evening, the ‘Speed Plump’ overnight moisture mousse is another super easy way to look after your skin. It’s designed to combat dry and dull skin by re-hydrating it overnight, so you wake up with plump, glowing skin that will stay hydrated for up to 8 hours afterwards.

3. Recover Your Mind
As well as exercise, there are plenty of other ways to make sure your mind is in the best place possible. This depends on the individual, for some meditation or yoga is a way to cleanse the mind, but for others this might not be suitable. I prefer to take some time to myself and snuggle up in bed with my favourite film and a million blankets (usually with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s) and spend an evening just chilling out and forgetting any worries I might have. Enjoy these first few weeks of semester 2, before the hard work starts, to rest and recuperate and take time to look after yourself.
Another way to improve your own happiness is by spreading happiness to those around you. This could be as simple as cleaning your flat kitchen, buying some treats in or baking for your housemates or even by donating some of your leftover Christmas money to charity. Not only will this make you feel happier by doing a good deed, it could also make the day of someone less fortunate than yourself.
A charity that I feel strongly needs support is the Young Women’s Trust. The YMT work with young women who are struggling to live or are at risk of living in poverty. The charity helps by providing free employment advice including assisting with job applications and CV’s as well as providing a coaching service that aims to make these young women feel confident and ready for work. The majority of those reading my blog are women of a similar age to those helped by the Young Women’s Trust, which is why both myself and Soap and Glory have chosen to focus on this charity. I would love it if even one person got involved or donated to the charity. If you would like to find out more about the YMT, the link to their website is: https://www.youngwomenstrust.org/ and you can donate here: https://www.youngwomenstrust.org/get_involved/donate

As always thank you for reading and thank you to Soap and Glory for supporting this post,
Lots of Love, Emma x
